Who We Are
Vérité Films is a boutique production company committed to stories from original and authentic voices.
Led by Virginia Thompson, Vérité has created and/or produced over 300 episodes of award-winning television in the areas of comedy, drama, children and youth, documentary, animation, and performing arts. Vérité is best known for developing and producing Canada's highest-rated comedy franchise of all time, Corner Gas, with Brent Butt and David Storey of 335 Productions. The franchise includes the smash hit series Corner Gas Animated, Corner Gas: The Sitcom and Corner Gas: The Movie .
In 2014, Vérité opened a distribution arm, Vérité International Distribution, to bring the Corner Gas brand and other Vérité productions to the world. In the decade since, Vérité has taken a leadership role in marketing and distributing our IP. We manage all web, social, and digital channels associated with our brands and attend all key global markets including mipcom, Content London, Kidscreen, and others. Our distribution efforts have garnered over $6M (CAD) in gross revenues to our collection of brands.
The company has also producedThe Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards since 2015. Vérité has won or been nominated for more than 120 national and international awards, including an International Emmy, The Prix Jeunesse, and many Canadian Screen Awards.
As a pledge to the next generation of storytellers, Vérité mentors producers and writers, including those of equity seeking groups. In 2021 and 2022 Vérité provided mentorship, in-kind producing, and business affairs services to kickstart the producing career of Aiza Ntibarikure and her first series Real Blackity Talk. From 2023 to 2025, we provided the same services to Akilah Newton of Big Dreamers Productions, helping her raise $200K (CAD) to develop her first scripted series Doubles. Virginia Thompson is chair of Canada’s National Screen Institute, serving under-represented content creators in telling unforgettable stories through industry mentorship and training.
Our focus on inclusion stems from the top: Vérité Films is a majority female-owned and female-led company and includes employees of colour, queer employees, and religious diversity.
